It’s not work when you’re actively doing what you love. And for us at Italtile, we feel the love every time we reach out to the communities in which we operate. One of our passions is the support of The Little Optimist – The Little Boats With Big Hearts – and sponsoring the extraordinary folk who go the extra (sea) mile to empower at-risk youth. On Friday 30 June, the young ‘Blikkies’ of Blikkiesdorp United FC swopped their football boots for their sea legs. Read about how the kids from the Blikkiesdorp informal settlement outside Cape Town enjoyed their sailing:

A boating bulletin from The Little Optimist.

The Blikiesdorp Football Club experienced a different game with us today – sailing. They not only acquired a new skill, but also learnt how to sail through life with optimism and self-belief. Coach Errol van der Byl and his wife Joyce nurture and coach around 150 junior players. They invest so much love in their teams and it shows. The boys enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the Waterfront, a stark contrast to the harsh environment they have to face every day. Thanks to our sponsors Italtile, Two Oceans Marine and Southern Wind for making this day possible.”

All of us at Italtile have great respect for the work of The Little Optimist, under the guidance of Greg Bertish. Harnessing his spirit of optimism and his own life-changing experiences he has grown the organisation into what it is today. Together with his team, he helps keep hope afloat for thousands of vulnerable children, and in our eyes, he truly gives us a greater understanding of and insight into what it means to Live Beautifully.
