Italtile Commercial Enhances The Elevated Aesthetic Of New Blueberry Square

In 2020, a major portion of the old Honeydew Shopping Centre was demolished to make way for the building of Blueberry Square. Completed in 2021, Blueberry Square is a refreshingly clean-cut, contemporary retail space that offers the established Honeydew community an elevated daily shopping, dining and banking experience.

Pretoria-based Frans Farmer, principal architect at Frans Farmer Architects CC was the reimagineer of the fresh new space. He teamed up with Marius Maree, JV Partner and head of Italtile Commercial, to achieve the required contemporary, high-end finish envisioned for the centre. Marius Maree was tasked with the selection of top quality sustainable, slip-resistant porcelain tiles for the bathrooms.

Marius chose a contrasting duo of dark and light slip-resistant stone-look tiles from the Landstone EcoTec collection, made exclusively for Italtile by Ceramic Industries. The EcoTec process reduces the clay, water and energy used for the tile bodies, which makes Landstone one of South Africa’s most sustainable tile choices; it carries Italtile’s prestigious LiveGreen label.

Landstone offers a remarkably authentic, varianced stone look, with rectified edges for an almost seamless finish and a sense of spaciousness. Landstone is a hard-wearing and durable glazed porcelain tile suitable for heavy foot traffic, which makes it the ideal choice for a busy shopping centre.

Marius also selected Landstone for its contemporary, neutral tones, to harmonise with the sleek, clean simplicity of the centre’s overall design aesthetic.
