ITALTILE COMMERCIAL ADDS SLEEK, CONTEMPORARY FINISHES TO FUTURE-FACING NEW BOARDING FACILITY AT ST ALBAN’S, PRETORIA.

For over 60 years, St Alban’s College in Pretoria has offered leaners a unique, holistic educational experience. Values-driven, future-facing and community-focused, St Alban’s has a strong House culture – with three Day Houses and (since July 2024) three Boarding Houses. Each House provides an environment designed to encourage learners to reach beyond academic frameworks and espouse teamwork, empathy, inclusivity and generate the passion to help others.

In July 2024, the school opened Tsebe House, the third Boarding facility. Italtile Commercial Gauteng, under the leadership of Commercial Consultant Catherine Brown, had the distinct privilege of collaborating with ARC MUV Architects and Jovan Projects, with oversight of high-end, sustainably manufactured contemporary finishes to finesse the magnificent new boarding facility.

Catherine proposed a selection of local and imported porcelain and ceramic tiles to build layers of tone and texture for a subtly varianced neutral canvas that amplifies the magnificent modern silhouette with its brick, steel, concrete and glass features.

Matrix 800 x 800, Spazio 600 x 600 and Magnum 590 x 1190, by local eco-pioneers Gryphon, offer a harmony of cement-screed looks, from smoky and mottled to eye-catching terrazzo effects. Gryphon’s green production methods use less clay, less water and less fuel to create stronger, thinner, lighter tiles.

Savona Grigio 400 x 1200, a Spanish white-bodied gloss glazed ceramic wall tile, is a masterful reimagination of the delicate travertine look, with subtle streaking and mottling in pearly greige and milky white.

Catherine selected a range of eco-chic bathroom finishes that include many of Italtile Commercial’s signature ranges, including waterwise mixers for basins, showers and baths by Almar and Tivoli; a pleasing combination of ultra-sustainable sanware by Swiss specialists LAUFEN and local manufacturers Betta; modern Franke sinks; with the finishing touches of contemporary bathroom accessories – these being Giro from Italy, and Semplice Chiara by Divina, Italtile’s own brand.
