Completed Residential Project I House Badenhorst Guest Bathroom

April 30, 2025

Minimalism started with a stark, almost gallery-like aesthetic, all clean lines and a deliberate absence. But we love what’s happening to the aesthetic lately: it's been softening around the edges. The palette is most often gentle neutrals, with natural textures, biophilic elements, and pops of muted colour bringing warmth without sacrificing the essential simplicity and clean lines.

When Italtile Boksburg’s Marku Gouws was asked to assist with the selection and supply of high-end porcelain tiles, sanware and fittings to elevate the renovation of François Badenhorst’s guest bathroom, he took the brief of minimalist functionality and simplicity and translated it into warm minimalism with a simple but eye-catching achromatic colour palette. The idea was to avoid the rigidity of stark austerity in order to create a sophisticated space imbued with the welcoming atmosphere of a “home from home” for his guests.

A serene tile theme of grounding greige rules, further softened with biophilic texture, while sleek, matt black tapware and accessories work their magic to create contrast and crispness. Texture becomes paramount in the restrained world of white, grey, and black - gloss vs matt, texture vs. smoothness—punctuation marks, with their reflective or muted surfaces reacting to the natural light in intriguing ways. The uncomplicated, crisp lines of a built-in bath alongside a sleek, frameless glass shower enclosure make the best use of limited space: the shower space offers a transparent boundary that maintains the visual flow and emphasises the play of light and shadow.

Marku’s style shortlist specified sustainable manufacture carrying solid guarantees and features deluxe, eco-chic local and imported products, all exclusive to Italtile.
