Italtile | Completed Projects | Cocktail Bar Thaba Eco Hotel

The Thaba Eco Hotel in Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve is a fascinating hotel with various tourism awards and a list of eco credentials longer than the hill it’s built on.

The venue plays host to almost any social event from weddings, to conferences, accommodation and spa facilities. The hotel incorporates energy efficiency and sustainable building practices at every turn, including xeriscaping, which is the environmental design of the hotel and land using various methods for minimizing the need for water use.

The all new E-Bar (E standing for Eco and not Electronic) – boasts a number of personal influences by co-owner, Marius Botes. The bar’s structure was manufactured from 3 repurposed aluminium ship containers. The area is made up of both succulent and vertical gardens, and the end result is a cool space that does not require an air conditioner. Add in a bamboo deck made from recycled plastic and reused gutters and your resultant setting is green - both visually and ecologically.

As the co-owner of Thaba Eco Hotel and cocktail bar, Marius knew that he was looking for something unique and outspoken for the bar’s restrooms. Italtile showroom manager, Katekani Baloyi, knew just the tile when it was brought in from Spain.

Arkit marble wall tiles proved to have the right balance of African modernity that Marius had been searching for, for quite some time. The black and white décor tile was used in both the men’s’ and ladies’ restrooms in order to create a feature wall that speaks for itself.
