01 on Lunar in Umhlanga is an exemplary example of how opposites come together to produce what now stands as an icon in the fast developing economic centre of Durban.

Project architect, Matt Salvesen of TC DESIGN GROUP began designing this commercial space well before construction began in 2014.

Project consultant for Italtile, Victor van den Berg, worked closely with the architects and developers to specify tiles and bathroom fittings for the building and its restrooms. The facility specifically showcases Italtile’s ability to successfully specify functioning and tasteful paraplegic facilities – the building boasts a generous 17 of these facilities. The bathrooms include accessories from the Medi-Clinics range – the stainless-steel finish is ideal for the sometimes tyrannous nature of a commercial space.

The building is jam-packed full of contrasts that work symbiotically together: modern vs traditional, smooth, metal beams vs raw face brick surfaces and even the tiles that are both light and dark as well as textured and polished. Tiles specified include Project Light Grey and Super White Nano in a popular 600 x 600 mm format as well as the Metropolitan range.

The 4800m2 building has five levels: two levels of basement parking, and three levels that include office space, lecture and seminar rooms as well as a canteen on the ground floor.
